Introduction - 

In this assignment, I've had been putting my critical digital skills in learning by surfing the internet & finding out information, AI in journalism and how would public trust in the news be affected. AI is pretty much the science of making machines think like humans. 

What is the issue? Significance, who is affected?

The article investigates the issue of AI, in newsrooms. The article also mentions about how AI tools are used to generate news content, assist in data analysis. AI in journalism signifies a major shift in how news is produced and consumed by the public. While AI could be more efficient and less time consuming. The public would raise questions about the ethical manner in journalism. As the risks of misinformation is present, the use of AI in journalism can increase misinformation if AI produces inaccurate and misleading content. The introduction of AI could lead to a significant job shortages as AI takes over certain roles and tasks. These unemployed members would further need to adapt to new jobs, which could create an imbalance in society. The members of society also could be affected by AI being introduced as their general shift and perspective could change depending how AI is programmed, they could also be a victim to echo chambers. 

Causes and Trends

This trend with ethical concerns is with misinformation and whether AI can generate fake news and other misleading content. This will pose a significant challenge to the integrity of journalism as integrity is a key part. During the past two years journalists now face increased pressure to verify the credibility of news information. They often require new tech & a higher investment to combat misinformation. "After the height of the pandemic in 2022, a study had found that 1 in 12 journos are questioned for reporting the correct information"- (Rebel News). Due to this public scepticism towards the media can increase, with the public questioning how valid the information is.
