Digital Natives vs. Digital Immigrants - what am I and why??
What is a digital native?
A digital native is a term that is used to refer to a person that was raised in the age of technology and who has grown up with exposure to technological devices and the internet from a young age.
What is a digital immigrant?
A digital immigrant is a term that is used to refer to a person that was born before the time when digital technology was incorporated into everyday life.
What am I??
While I was born in the time period where digital technology was widespread and am technically a digital native, I do not think of myself to be a digital native. This is because I wasn’t given any type of technological device until I was 10. And I was only given this device as my family and I were living in Bali and I was going to school an hour away from home. Both my mom and my dad wanted me to have an opportunity to learn how to socialise with people face-to-face and not through the screen of a device.
