The harmful effect that AI has on society
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is defined as a theory that computer systems are able to perform task that would usually require a human intelligence.
Society is defined as a group of people who live in a community and share the same culture.
This article shows how AI has revolutionised certain aspects of our lives by enhancing productivity to improve our healthcare and transportation systems. However, the main topic the article talks about is the issues of AI and how it presents a range of future challenges that can potentially have negative impacts/consequences on our society.
Why is this an issue?
AI can be an issue in our society as it can lead to job loss. AI is progressively replacing human workers across many industries, such as customer service, retail checkouts, data entry and assembly lines to only name a few. This is leaving many people unemployed. Job displacement especially affects those in low-skilled positions which furthermore increases inequality within the workplace industry.
Why is this Topic Relevant Today?
This topic is relevant in this generation as it is becoming a bigger issue every day. It is affecting almost everyone in good ways and bad. It is making jobs easier to work but is also taking over the 'easier' jobs leaving people who are inexperienced unemployed and jobless.
Who does this Affect?
This affects a lot on employees and people who are unemployed. It is making it harder to find a starting/first job which reduces the number of experiences an individual can get before finding a career. This is affecting employees as it is taking over jobs in our society, leaving people, even with experience, unemployed in certain industries. A big industry which is affected by AI is the retail industry as it is creating self-serve checkouts which means businesses don't need as many employees anymore.
